Global Microfinance Case Competition 2024
In 2024, the Global Microfinance Case Competition (GMCC) continued to push boundaries, bringing together over 1,000 participants from 48 universities worldwide, reaffirming our position as the largest student-run case competition of its kind. To help students build critical skills in strategic thinking and problem-solving, LEK Consulting hosted the GMCC Workshop, equipping participants with valuable case competition insights to help students excel in the competition.
We were honoured to welcome a panel of distinguished judges from leading social impact firms and organisations, including the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, associates from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), representatives from Giant Leap, and the CEO of Global Impact Initiative.
This year’s case broke new ground by expanding beyond traditional microfinance themes. Our case partner, CHAIN (Community Health and Information Network), is a Ugandan not-for-profit civil society organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life for vulnerable communities. CHAIN promotes access to healthcare and provides essential prevention and support services for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB), malaria, and non-communicable diseases. They also focus on capacity building for grassroots organisations, support for orphans and vulnerable children, and enhancing patient safety and health literacy.
Participants were challenged to develop sustainable strategies to help CHAIN continue its vital work—exploring income-generating initiatives and potential partnerships with microfinance institutions, insurance companies, and healthcare providers.
